FarmerCover has been developed following extensive research of the needs of Australian rural families. With good or bad seasons generally dependent on favourable weather conditions, FarmerCover provides affordable personal insurance protection through a range of strategies to the Australian rural community, taking into account the extra inherent risk of death and disability that occur on farming properties. Teaming up with the world’s largest risk broker Aon, and alliances with large and respected Australian insurers of AIA, Asteron, Macquarie Life, OnePath, TAL and Zurich, we are able to determine cover that best suits your needs and budget, and ensure both you and your family are protected against any unforeseen mishap or illness. Gavin Newbound •	Principal of FarmerCover •	Authorised Representative No. 248152 •	Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) •	Graduate Diploma Personal Financial Planning (University of Southern Queensland) •	Bachelor of Economics (University of New England) Gavin has been a financial planner since 2002 with a further 13 years financial sector experience as a superannuation specialist. Being a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), this award is the highest attainable in the internationally recognised financial planning profession, where additional and ongoing professional education as well as following the Financial Planning Association of Australia’s ethical standards and ‘Code of Professional Practice’ is required to maintain this designation. Married with 3 teenage children, Gavin’s life experience allows him to understand the issues faced by families in day-to-day living, including mortgage repayments, education of children, budgets, work-life balance and general health related matters. With 15 years experience as a small business owner that includes 8 years outside the finance industry, “the customer comes first” philosophy has been maintained as a financial planner, and is not led by the interests of banks or insurance companies. The relationship with the world’s largest risk insurance broker Aon is the ‘best fit’ for FarmerCover, where they already has a strong relationship with Australian farmers in general insurance and in particular, their ‘Farm Pack’ product. As FarmerCover is a family run and operated business, if making contact you will either speak with Gavin directly, or his wife Louise who other than running the family, is also an accredited financial planner in her own right and handles much of the administration of the business.

What we do...

Respect that everyone’s needs are different, and develop long term financial protection strategies based on your circumstances, and those of your family. Are passionate about what we do, with recognition of the under- insurance problem in Australia. The short and long term financial repercussions of sickness and accident are not well understood in the general community, and may not only affect the individual, but also their families. Assist no only in the application and underwriting stage, but our service continues with a review on policies as your personal circumstances change, as well as providing assistance in the event of claim at no additional cost. Establish long term relationships  and consider our clients as friends. While direct marketing strategies are available to us if we elected, we consider the greatest complement being referrals from our friends knowing they are satisfied with the service provided.  We have a genuine interest in your farming activities, and the day to day life of you and your family. While insurers will naturally need to know details of your past and current health, all discussion remains strictly confidential.

What we don’t do...

Advise premiums based on a daily basis, using similarities such “the cost of a cup of coffee a day”. The daily costs are quite often promoted in television advertisements where if converted into yearly amounts, may hide the fact that their premiums can actually be more expensive.       We do however advise premiums on an annual basis, allowing you to determine the effects on the family budget, which may in turn be broken down into half-yearly, quarterly or monthly amounts based on what best suits your cashflow. Advise that there are no health requirements when applying for insurance cover. “No health requirements” is commonly used by direct insurers including ‘cold callers’. While there may be little or no health evidence required upfront, underwriting instead is completed at the time of claim and other than delaying payment, may reject a claim if they believe a  ‘pre-existing condition’ was active at the time of application - it is then up to the life insured to prove that any condition was not pre-existing. In this case, it may be possible ongoing premiums may be paid on an event that will not be covered. FarmerCover in comparison only arrange underwriting at the time of application. As insurance contracts with the insurer determining whether they will accept the risk outright or with loadings or exclusions applied. So long as all medical information is disclosed at application, the insurer is obliged to pay out a claim so long as policy definitions are met. This provides greater certainty, with our preferred insurers promoting their claims paid in any year, and who want to ensure claims are paid out quickly with much empathy. With FarmerCover’s focus on the long term relationship with it’s clients, you know in the event of claim we will be there, rather than be “here today, gone tomorrow”, knowing the use of upfront underwriting provides greater certainty.
